ASUU-AAUA TO CONTINUE STRIKE AS MEETING WITH MANAGEMENT HITS A BRICK WALL
The Academic Staff Union Of Universities AAUA Chapter in a meeting with the University administration today Monday 22nd of August have made it clear the ongoing strike won't be suspended except three months salaries plus five months deductions are being paid.
The Vice Chancellor Prof Igbekele Ajibefun had earlier made an offer of two months salaries out of four months plus two months deductions out of nine months.

"The executive members of ASUU-AAUA met with the University Administration today, 22nd August, 2016, at the Senate Building. At the meeting, the University Administration offered to pay two months salary out of four months, and two months deductions out of nine months. The University Administration however insisted that these payments would be done within two weeks of resumption.
The Vice Chancellor pleaded that it was the present financial challenges that led to the reduction of money coming from Abuja that was responsible for the present inability to pay salaries.
Responding, the Chairperson submitted that the Union was not aversed to making concessions as it demonstrated through its delay in embarking on the strike action in the first place. On the strength of such, and the need to shift grounds in negotiations, the Chairperson, on behalf of Congress, requested that three months salaries and five months deductions be paid. He further stated, VERY CATEGORICALLY, that the strike would only be suspended after these payments. Similarly, it was made abuntantly clear that a MoU detailing how to attend to other outstanding salaries and deductions as well as future salary payments must be evolved.
The meeting also countenanced the need to
the leadership of the Union at the different levels along in the resolution of the ongoing industrial dispute.
The Vice Chancellor, thereafter, promised to get back to the leadership of ASUU-AAUA as the meeting could not achieve a resolution of the dispute.
Given the foregoing, we appeal to all members to continue to persevere and be resolute as we insist on the respect of our rights and dignity, as well as the sustenance of our existence.
