OPINION| ONDO Poll: Dayo Williams’ view about Eyitayo Jegede candidacy
By : IJOBAA
Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the PDP in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state. He’s not a politician in the traditional sense of the word, but he’s a gentle man. And perhaps a brilliant lawyer.
On his own, he would not have thought of running as a candidate for Akure South Local Government chairmanship election, but Governor Mimiko, who desperately needs a successor who can cover his tracks for him, anointed him among other qualified aspirants in the PDP to the governorship seat in the state. That’s the summary of Eyitayo’s emergence as the PDP candidate in the state.
Eyitayo has no structure of his own. He’s banking on the structure of his godfather, Governor Mimiko, to campaign for the election.
This implies that Eyitayo is going to run with the vision and mission of Governor Mimiko, who has been in the saddle in the last seven years.
I was, however, surprised when I saw a poster bearing the picture of Eyitayo where words like ‘new vision, new direction’ showcasing the candidacy of Eyitayo.
Does it mean he no longer believes in the old vision of his godfather, Mimiko? Does it mean that he’s tired of the jaded caring heart antics of the incumbent? Why should Eyitayo contemplate any vision that’s new aside the vision of Governor Mimiko?
New direction? That’s a shift from the old form. Only interpretation for this is that Eyitayo has never approved of the direction of Mimiko, thus, he wants to create his own direction.
So why should Eyitayo want to ride on the back of Mimiko to Government House when he does not believe in the vision and direction of his near 8-year principal?
