Match Day 23 : 10 Things we learned - Sport
The Barclays Premier League points table is taking shape slowly and
teams from all over the nation will have to find some consistency to
reach the targets set for the end of the season. This week of the
Premier League produced some sensational games which kept the viewers
glued to the screens.
Here are 10 thins we learnt from the 23 rd round of Premier League fixtures:
1. Liverpool own Norwich City:
Even as Norwich City were leading 3-1, Liverpool who have not lost
against the Canaries came back to lead 4-3 then again to 5-4 and
literally snatched away all three points from the home side on
Saturday. The Reds are now unbeaten in the last 12 outing since 1993
against he Canaries.
2. Garde making Villa solid:
Aston Villa showed a sense of solidarity at the back against the
Baggies and though their striking woes are still evident, they did
really well to hold onto to a point and are now 7 points away from
safety. They however will have to improve to avoid relegations this
season.
3. Black Cats claw a point:
The Cherries led with a early goal from Afobe but an equalizer in the
dying minutes of the first half by Van Aanholt gave Sunderland an
important point in the relegation battle. This result has now left the
Cherries just 4 points above the relegation zone.
4. Hornets sink Magpies deeper:
Sanches Florez' side took all three points from a struggling Newcastle
side that now see themselves firmly in the drop zone, two points away
from safety. They will have to improve on their performances quickly
if they are to stay safe at the end of the season.
5. Fans sack Louis van Gaal:
The atmosphere inside the Old Trafford was clearly marred with the 1-0
loss to the Saints in Sunday. Manager Louis van Gaal who has been
under immense criticism recently has once again lost a game but has
not been relieved of his duties. However, the Old Trafford faithful
seem to have given up on the Dutchman and are now completely against
him. It might just be a matter of time before van Gaal is sacked or
resigns from his post.
6. Leicester going to Europe, possible title challenge?
In this season of inconsistent results, Leicester City took all three
points against Stoke City and regained their status at the top of the
table after the last league game in January. It is no easy feat to top
the BPL table and Ranieri' side now look a serious Champions League
outfit and might also put in a title challenge if they can stay
consistent.
7. Spurs surprise title contenders?
Pochettino's side have been just incredible this season and find
themselves just 5 points away from the Premier League title. They have
been the most consistent side in recent times and will be disappointed
if they don't play in the Champions League next season. However, they
are now also capable of launching a serious title bid.
8. Hammers hold the Citizens:
Manchester City have to seriously catch up ground at the top of the
table if they are to win the title this season. They were outplayed by
West Ham on the night and were lucky to get a point after trailing
twice on the night. They will have to improve on their game to
entertain a title bid.
9. Guidolin kicks off with a victory:
Swansea City did really well to hold on to a 2-1 victory at the
Goodison Park in their new manager Guidolin's first game incharge of
the side. They did not look great going forward but did exceptionally
well to hold on to the narrow lead and take three important points
that gives them some breathing space at the 15 th place.
10. Wenger hates Chelsea:
Arsenal have now not beaten Chelsea in the last 8 games and have
failed to score a goal against the Blues in the last 5. They have
picked up 3 red cards in the two league games this season and have
failed to take even a point. It is safe to say that Arsene Wenger just
hates the sight of a Chelsea crest even when Mourinho is not at its
helm.
